Last Board Meeting Report, March 27 Courtesy of Guidry News: The Galveston Independent School District Board of Trustees on Wednesday voted unanimously to name Kimble Anders as the district's athletic director and head football coach. Anders is currently the director of athletics in the Kansas City Public School District, and played professional football for the Kansas City Chiefs from 1991-2000. He is also a Ball High School graduate. “I’m excited about coming home to Galveston and working with our student-athletes,” said Anders. “I look forward to putting back on the purple and gold as a leader this time, and teaching young men and women what I learned as a pro, which led to a lot of life lessons. I plan on having a program with high intensity and smart, sound football.” News Release The board voted unanimously to approve a capital project to renovate the Burnet Elementary School campus to conditions before Hurricane Ike and to amend a contract with PBK Architects to name the project's parameters as the renovation of the school. A proposed capital project to renovate the 31st Street Warehouse to pre-Ike condition failed for lack of a motion. The board voted unanimously to extend the district's bank depository contract with Moody National Bank through August 31, 2015. The board voted unanimously to approve a change order for a contract with Teachscape, Inc. for consultant services to assist the district with the continuing development of a performance-based evaluation system as part of the Teacher Incentive Fund Grant. The change order added $215,000 to the contract, for a total amount not to exceed $430,000, and extends the consultant's services through September. All other items were approved by unanimous vote.Trustee Mary Cazares was absent. Trustee Beau Rawlins left the meeting early and did not participate in the votes on some items. The grant requires no matching funds from the school district, and would be awarded over a period of three-to-five years. “The purpose of the grant is to target students and families most in need of academic assistance,” Superintendent Larry Nichols said. “Programming requires intentional activities focused on students' area of greatest academic need. Funds can be budgeted for transportation and facilities.” The school board voted unanimously to award a $116,760 contract to Inland Environments, Ltd. for asbestos abatement at the Burnet campus site. No other action items were on the agenda.
