Sixth grader Ernesto Rodriguez, age 12, had been named the middle school basketball captain of the Crenshaw team, set to play its first game this season.
In memory of Ernesto, the team will dedicate the 2010-2011 season to him and will forever see the Crenshaw gymnasium as a symbol of his compassion, energy, and dedication. In the hearts of his peers, the gymnasium will be looked upon as the Ernesto Rodriguez gym. Crenshaw staff and students will hang his jersey - No. 12 - and his plaque in the rafters to honor what his essence represented to our school and our hearts.
The ceremony will take place during the Veteran's Day Program on Tuesday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. at the school.
